Here’s what happened in September!

With the NRL season coming to a close for our beloved Bronocs, September meant we had to bring the energy and good times in other ways!

When one door closes, another opens… which means that the end of the NRL season signifies the beginning of our surfing season! Alongside some incredible beach days, September hosted some fantastic events such as the various BrisFest events, high energy socials (as per usual) and some fantastic gigs.

September’s Soundtrack: Recap on Music and Comedy Gigs

September was a fantastic month for music and laughter, featuring an array of talented performers that left audiences buzzing with excitement at the various music and comedy gigs we attended.

The Full Flower Moon Band kicked things off with their enchanting sound, drawing listeners into a world of rich melodies and heartfelt lyrics. Following this, the collaboration between Dune Rats and Fidlar delivered a high-energy performance that had everyone dancing and singing along, creating an electric atmosphere that resonated throughout the venue.

Another standout was Lighting the Dark, a theatre showcase which was part of BrisFest that highlighted incredible local talent, transforming the night into a celebration of creativity, artistic expression and inclusion as the show was choreographed by Chris Dyke, an incredibly skilled dancer living with Down Syndrome.

The heavy-hitting gigs continued with Parkway Drive, who rocked the stage with their powerful sound and commanding presence, proving why they are among the top bands in the scene. Nostalgia filled the air as Grinspoon took us on a trip down memory lane with their classic hits, reminding us why we fell in love with their music in the first place.

To top off the month, comedians Urzila Carlson and Nazeem Hussain brought the house down with their sharp wit and hilarious anecdotes. Their performances turned ordinary nights into extraordinary experiences, leaving everyone in stitches and wanting more. September was truly a celebration of sound and laughter!

Highlights from the Field

For sports enthusiasts, September was an exhilarating month packed with live-action and camaraderie. The atmosphere was electric as we gathered for the Broncos vs Sharks match, where every tackle and try was met with enthusiasm from our crew. The sense of community was palpable as everyone celebrated the final game of our season, sharing the thrill of victory with our Storm supporters and the agony of defeat for the rest of the Broncos fans. Fortunately for Trent and George, they had the experience of a stadium tour of Suncorp Stadium and check out where our favourite sportspeople train and prepare for the games.

The excitement continued with the AFLW Lions vs Collingwood game, where our Lions showcased their fierce determination and skill, battling hard on the field. Every play was a display of athleticism and strategy, captivating the fans in attendance. The month’s action didn’t stop there; the rematch between the AFLW Lions and Bulldogs was another gripping contest that had Tyler and Emma on the edge of their seats.

As September wound down, we gathered for the much-anticipated AFL Grand Final screening of Lions vs Swans. The atmosphere was electric as we came together to support the mighty Lions, sharing huge cheers when we WON!

Together in September: A Look Back at Our Social Events

September also brought a delightful array of social events that allowed our community to connect and create lasting memories. We kicked things off with an exciting evening of Bowling and Karaoke, where laughter echoed through the alley as our crew cheered for strikes and belted out their favourite tunes. The camaraderie and fun made for a perfect night of entertainment.

The Brisbane Lego Expo was a fantastic event that sparked creativity and imagination, with attendees showcasing their building skills and marvelling at impressive structures. Next, our Escape Room adventure tested our teamwork and problem-solving abilities, turning friends into allies as we raced against the clock to solve puzzles and escape.

For those seeking a bit of thrill, Axe Throwing offered our community to once again master the art of hitting bullseyes, while our beach days were perfect for soaking up the sun and enjoying the beautiful Queensland weather. We also celebrated pop culture at Comic Con, where fans connected over shared interests and vibrant costumes.

The action-packed night at Laserforce was a hit, bringing out everyone’s competitive spirit in a fun and friendly environment, with unlimited laser tag, mini golf and arcade games… what could be better?

Finally, the Carnival of Flowers brought colour and joy to our September, celebrating nature and community with beautiful displays and activities. Each event was a testament to the spirit of connection and fun that defines our community.

BrisFest Unleashed: A Month of Fashion, Culture, and Enchantment in Brisbane

As September faded into memory, BrisFest illuminated Brisbane with a spectacular lineup of events that brought the community together in celebration. Among the standout experiences were the dazzling Be Iconic Runway, the immersive Skylore: Rainbow Serpent, and the enchanting Lightscape. Each event offered a unique opportunity for creativity, connection, and joy, making this festival a true highlight of the month.

The Be Iconic Runway set the stage for a breathtaking showcase of fashion and artistry. Those that attended the workshops throughout August had the opportunity to show off their fantastic creations. Attendees were not just spectators; they became part of a movement that encouraged confidence, individuality and inclusivity. The runway became a platform for conversation, highlighting the importance of representation in fashion and the creative arts.

The Skylore: Rainbow Serpent event took attendees on a mesmerizing journey through storytelling and visual art. This immersive experience blended ancient narratives with modern interpretations, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Indigenous Australians. The stunning light displays and captivating performances painted a vivid picture of the Rainbow Serpent’s journey, inviting audiences to reflect on the deep connections between land, people, and culture.

Finally, Lightscape lit up Brisbane with an awe-inspiring display of art and technology. This breathtaking installation transformed the city into a canvas of light, colour, and sound, creating a magical atmosphere that captivated everyone. As we strolled through the illuminated pathways, we were greeted by interactive installations and breathtaking projections that celebrated the beauty of the natural world and the vibrancy of our community.
